Brian graduated with distinction and with honors in Political Science from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1977 where he was also admitted to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1980.
Brian is admitted to practice in the State of Indiana, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Brian currently serves as City Attorney for the City of Nappanee and as the Attorney for the Nappanee Public Library. He has represented other political subdivisions in Elkhart County as special counsel.
Brian is a member of the Indiana and Goshen City Bar Associations and is a past president of the Goshen City Bar Association. Brian also serves as a director of the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau and of Nappanee Open Door, Inc., a local charitable organization. He is a past president of both the Kiwanis Club of Nappanee and the Elkhart County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Brian also serves as a volunteer for the Nappanee Apple Festival.
